The media week was organized by the Television and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (TRC) and China Media Group (CMG). The event was held within the framework of a memorandum signed last year during the official visit of the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, to Kazakhstan. MNU Provost Anar Ibrayeva expressed her gratitude to partners from TRC and CMG for providing students with the opportunity to gain knowledge from leading journalists of the Celestial Empire.

“CMG Media Week 2026 is a platform for dialogue between countries, cultures, and media professionals. The media week brought together people who shape the agenda. It is an excellent opportunity for future journalists to learn not from textbooks, but through direct interaction with international experts,” noted Anar Ibrayeva.

The event brought together CMG practitioners on a single educational platform. Throughout the week, intensive training sessions on multimedia content production were held, along with master classes aimed at developing reporting skills in an international environment. In addition, separate lectures by experts were organized for TRC employees.

“This is a unique project that became a reality thanks to our strategic partnership with China Media Group and the support of MNU. In the era of digitalization and the introduction of artificial intelligence, the event serves as an important platform for exchanging advanced experience and mastering new methods of media production. Our initiative is a long-term investment in the future of the industry and in strengthening the foundation of professional cooperation between Kazakhstan and China. We believe in the younger generation and sincerely hope that they will become leaders shaping the future of global media in the coming decades,” emphasized Robert Muradyan, Managing Director of the Television and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the training sessions, students had the opportunity to work on real cases and present their own projects. Master classes were held on the production of television news reports, documentary films, storytelling, and podcasts. Special attention was paid to digital content production and the effective use of artificial intelligence technologies.

“The training sessions were interesting and useful. I did not expect that AI could be used for so many media products. We learned the proper use of artificial intelligence technologies and their ethical aspects. I really liked the approach of the Chinese trainers, as the topic of AI has not yet been fully explored, but we learned the rules that should be followed when using it,” said MNU student Ayaulym Amangeldina.

It is worth noting that China Media Group brings together more than 100 television and radio channels, as well as information platforms broadcasting in more than 80 languages. CMG’s correspondent network includes over 190 overseas bureaus in 67 countries. Following the media week, the best student projects were presented, and participants received certificates.

“Our visit to Kazakhstan became possible thanks to the cooperation between the Television and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, MNU, and China Media Group. I was sincerely pleased to meet local students who are truly passionate about audio journalism and the art of podcasting. Overall, the students exceeded all expectations. They recorded interviews in Astana, collected audio materials for their final projects, and handled the tasks brilliantly. I was also impressed that MNU applies a practice-oriented approach to education,” emphasized CGTN Radio Editor-in-Chief Ning Yan.

It should be recalled that in 2024, as part of the partnership with TRC, the first Al Jazeera Week in Central Asia was also held at MNU.

Ernar Taizhan explained the key areas of the agency’s work, placing particular emphasis on preventive activities within the framework of the “Law and Order” principle, as well as measures aimed at preventing financial offenses. According to him, last year initiatives to enhance financial literacy reached more than seven million citizens belonging to at-risk groups. In addition, the agency’s representative shared the results of implemented projects and initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of financial security in society.

“The Financial Monitoring Agency actively cooperates with Maqsut Narikbayev University. The university supports our initiatives, and students are actively involved in projects, including participation in the National Financial Security Olympiad. They complete internships in the agency’s departments, contribute to our work, and often go on to become our colleagues. I would also like to highlight the high level of student training — they come to us already well-prepared and competent specialists. We highly value this partnership and look forward to its further development”, – Ernar Taizhan emphasized.

The topic of common fraud schemes sparked particular interest among the audience. Ernar Taizhan elaborated on the most relevant methods of deception faced by citizens, and also shared specific cases and protection mechanisms against such threats. Students asked the speaker a number of questions and proposed their own ideas for improving financial literacy and combating fraud.

It should be noted that the lecture was held as part of the Public Relations course. During the course, students of the International School of Journalism meet with PR professionals, work on real cases from their organizations, and develop their own PR strategies. It is worth recalling that earlier, within the framework of cooperation with the Financial Monitoring Agency, MNU launched an additional specialization titled Financial Intelligence and Financial Security.

Students from the journalism faculties of MNU, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, and Astana IT University took part in the master class. Experts in international communications, winners of journalism competitions, and climate analysts conducted a detailed review of the best publications on biodiversity and spoke about the role of media and communications in covering climate risks. They also demonstrated the possibilities of using artificial intelligence tools when preparing journalistic materials.

“Discussing climate risks today requires journalists not only to have the ability to explain complex issues in simple terms, but also the skills to work with large amounts of data. The main challenge now is to navigate the flow of information in order to responsibly convey facts to an audience that makes decisions and influences the world. I am confident that the experience of practicing experts and the new networking opportunities will be extremely useful for all future journalists,” emphasized Aigul Zhamalova, Dean of the International School of Journalism at MNU.

It should be noted that the master class was organized jointly with the UNDP Office in Kazakhstan, Qazcontent JSC, and the Green Climate Fund. Active cooperation has been ongoing since 2023 under a signed memorandum. The document marked an important step in supporting and professionally developing talented young people, as well as in shaping a corps of journalists that meets the modern communicative needs of society and the state. A particularly significant milestone was the launch of the MNU International School of Journalism.

As part of the partnership, lectures, training sessions and masterclasses delivered by employees of the Presidential Television and Radio Complex are regularly held at the university. Students also take part in major projects run by the media holding’s partners. Previously, the university hosted events by China Media Group (CMG), as well as an Al Jazeera training week.

The Presidential Television and Radio Complex pays special attention to the professional development of future journalists. The media holding has previously awarded educational grants, regularly invites students for professional internships, and gives graduates priority access to employment opportunities. At present, around 15 students are undertaking internships, and more than one third of graduates from the International School of Journalism are successfully employed within the structures of the Television and Radio Complex.

“There are not many media organisations in Kazakhstan where you can create content in English. At the Presidential Television and Radio Complex, I was able to combine everything that matters to me: analytics, the English language and television. I am grateful to the university and the media holding for all the opportunities provided,” said Silk Way TV correspondent Almir Amirov.

It should be noted that the Presidential Television and Radio Complex of the Republic of Kazakhstan brings together the national TV channel Jibek Joly, the international TV channels Silk Way, Silk Way Cinema and Silk Way Prime, Jibek Joly Radio, the international news agency Kazinform, and the Documentary Film Centre.

Roman Podoprigora provided a detailed overview of the role and functions of the Constitutional Court, the history of its establishment, and the significance of constitutional norms in protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens. Particular attention was paid to constitutional proceedings and citizens’ applications. The lecture was attended by students of the International School of Journalism at MNU.

The audience showed special interest in cases related to media activities, access to information, and limitations on rights and freedoms. Roman Podoprigora emphasised that it is essential for journalists to understand the constitutional foundations of their profession and to remain mindful of their responsibility when covering issues of public importance. The Judge also answered students’ questions.

“Such lectures are very important not only for lawyers. Today, I spoke with future journalists, as the Constitutional Court addresses issues related to the right to freedom of speech and the dissemination of information. I wish for the Basic Law to enable citizens to realise their opportunities and rights, with everything remaining within the constitutional and legal framework,” Roman Podoprigora emphasised.

It is worth mentioning that the lecture was delivered as part of the Media Law course.

Recently, negotiations took place in Doha between the Director of the Television and Radio Complex of the President of Kazakhstan and a member of the Board of Trustees of Maqsut Narikbayev University, Raushan Kazhibayeva, and the Director General of Al Jazeera Media Network, Sheikh Nasser bin Faisal Al Thani. The discussions focused on deepening cooperation and expanding Al Jazeera’s presence in the region. During a separate meeting between Raushan Kazhibayeva and the Director of the Al Jazeera Media Institute, Iman Al Amri, plans to hold the second Al Jazeera Week in 2026 were officially confirmed. In addition, it was proposed to provide Kazakhstani students and media professionals with access to the media institute’s extensive library of original professional literature, which brings together Al Jazeera’s decades-long journalistic expertise.

It should be noted that in 2024, the Television and Radio Complex of the President of Kazakhstan and Al Jazeera Media Network organised the first-ever Al Jazeera Week in Central Asia at MNU. Students and journalists were offered more than 100 hours of theoretical and practical training delivered by representatives of one of the world’s largest and most authoritative international media networks. As part of the event, a memorandum of cooperation was also signed between MNU and Al Jazeera Media Institute.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Tengrinews.kz, Raushan Kazhibayeva spoke about the future plans and projects of the Television and Radio Complex of the President, the development of international cooperation, and the current state of the domestic media market. She emphasised that in recent years the TRC has built an extensive portfolio of joint projects with Al Jazeera and the China Media Group, including training programmes for students and journalists, professional exchanges, and other initiatives. It is worth recalling that in 2023, the International School of Journalism was established at MNU in partnership with the Television and Radio Complex of the President of Kazakhstan.

When you are equipped with knowledge, you are always stronger, calmer, and more confident in your work. Training sessions like this help prepare for challenging or provocative questions, maintain composure, and convey the right message — to speak in a way that is precise, legally sound, and clear to the public,” emphasised Aizhan Aimaganova.

And informed communities are the foundation of a peaceful and progressive society,” noted EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Eduards Stiprais.

The Special Representative stressed that the European Union will remain a reliable long-term partner in promoting media freedom and strengthening digital resilience in Central Asia. Forum participants also received warm greetings from President of the European Council António Costa, who is currently on an official visit to Astana. The event became an important regional platform, enhancing cooperation between the EU and the Central Asian media community.

“The forum raises issues that are becoming part of a new professional culture. Our university also trains journalists, and this year we introduced an AI course for all final-year students. We have also launched an AI laboratory working with big data and AI applications. This allows us to prepare specialists who are confident in navigating the digital environment,” said MNU Provost Anar Ibrayeva.
