On April 21\u201322, Maqsut Narikbayev University hosted the XVII Republican Subject Olympiad in Journalism and Information for the first time. This year, the student competition brought together 17 teams from various regions of Kazakhstan, uniting the most talented and ambitious students aspiring to build careers in the media industry.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the results of the Olympiad, first place was awarded to students from SDU <\/strong>University in the Almaty region. It is worth noting that this was the first time the event was hosted by MNU<\/strong>, as the university earned the right by winning last year’s competition. The host team participated outside the main competition, thereby passing the initiative and awards to other universities, while still demonstrating a high level of preparation and commendable team spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is a great honour for us to host the Republican Subject Olympiad in Journalism at Maqsut Narikbayev University. The Olympiad represents a significant milestone in the development of the International School of Journalism, which opened its doors in 2023. This event provided a valuable platform for the exchange of knowledge and the establishment of new connections among students and educators,” <\/em>said Sergey Pen<\/strong>, Provost of MNU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Olympiad comprised four challenging stages. In the first round, participants presented an oral self-introduction and a team video card. In the second, they were tasked with writing an informational note and a television script using randomly assigned keywords and prompts. All submissions were reviewed anonymously to ensure fairness. The third stage took the form of an intellectual quiz, where students answered questions on the history of journalism, media ethics, and fact-checking. The final round featured a crisis simulation\u2014a true test of professional resilience. In an information vacuum, participants had to produce material that mirrored the real-life challenges faced in newsrooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Olympiad was organised at the highest level, and the competition was incredibly strong. It is a great honour for our team and our entire university to win such a prestigious event. We are sincerely grateful to MNU for the warm welcome and the outstanding organisation,” <\/em>said Dinmuhamed Bolat<\/strong>, a student at SDU University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
