A training session for journalists was held at Maqsut Narikbayev University, organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Kazakhstan. The event focused on climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental sustainability, and the use of modern digital tools in journalism<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sukhrob Khodzhimatov<\/strong>, Deputy Permanent Representative of the UNDP in Kazakhstan, and Sergey Pen<\/strong>, Provost of Maqsut Narikbayev University, delivered welcoming remarks to the participants. In their addresses, they emphasised the importance of cross-sectoral dialogue and the active role of the media in advancing the climate agenda. The training at MNU reflects the university\u2019s commitment to supporting sustainable development and serving as a platform for expert discussions on pressing global challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event brought together representatives of the Kazakh media, UNDP experts and the International School of Journalism students. Throughout the day, participants discussed the major challenges facing the country in the context of the climate crisis, as well as ways to enhance the role of journalism in fostering environmental awareness in society. Particular attention was given to innovative approaches, including the use of artificial intelligence and fact-checking tools in the media. At the conclusion of the training, a competition was announced for journalists reporting on environmental issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is worth noting that Maqsut Narikbayev University recently hosted another expert discussion<\/a>, this time on global development financing. The event was organised by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Kazakhstan in cooperation with the UN country team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
