The graduation ceremony brought together more than a thousand graduates, including bachelor’s and master’s degree recipients in law, economics, diplomacy, journalism, linguistics, and tourism. It was an evening filled with both the bittersweet emotions of farewell and the excitement of new opportunities ahead. The names of graduates who made an exceptional contribution to the university’s history were entered into the Altyn Kitap (Golden Book) – MNU’s Book of Honour.

Among those recognised for outstanding academic achievements and victories in prestigious international competitions was Anel Sapargaliyeva, a graduate of the Law School . Throughout her student years, she embraced numerous intellectual challenges, representing the university at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, where the MNU team achieved the best result in Kazakhstan’s history. Today, Anel is building her legal career as a Junior Lawyer in the Litigation Department of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) Court.

“For me, the university became a place where far more happened than I could ever have imagined when I first walked through its doors. It was here that I prepared for my trip to Washington, where we went on to defeat Ivy League universities and proudly raised the flag of our homeland. Those are memories that will stay with me forever. It was here that I found like-minded people and turned ideas into reality—ideas that changed not only the world around me but also myself. My years at MNU gave me lifelong friends and remarkable professors with whom I know I will stay connected for years to come,” said Anel Sapargaliyeva, wishing this year’s graduates strength, determination, and perseverance.

Dariya Tokenova, a graduate of the School of Liberal Arts, was also honoured by being included in the Altyn Kitap. She now works at Haileybury Astana and reflects on her university years with great appreciation:

“The university gave me so much—love, knowledge, and lifelong friends. I am proud to be a graduate of this university. My happiest student memories are the projects we carried out together as part of the MNU President’s Team.”

These warm feelings are shared by Apolot Juliet, a master’s graduate from Uganda. During her time at MNU, she not only excelled academically but also became an active member of the university community by participating in the MNU Charity Marathon. According to her, studying at MNU provided an invaluable opportunity to experience Kazakhstan’s culture of hospitality and communication. She was deeply impressed by the university administration’s dedication and the students’ commitment to their studies.

Master’s graduate Aida Mukaseva also shared her impressions of studying at MNU. Akzhol Baibolatov, a graduate of the Law School, also spoke warmly about his years at the university, where he found not only professional opportunities but also his future life partner.

The undergraduate programme is offered by the MNU Law School. It combines fundamental legal education, practical training, and modern digital tools. The curriculum is designed to enable students to progress systematically from the fundamental principles of law to solving practical legal cases.

During the first year of study, students build a strong foundation by studying legal theory, constitutional, civil and criminal law, legal logic, and philosophy of law. The focus then shifts towards developing practical skills, working with real-life legal situations, procedural training, and specialised subjects. Particular emphasis is placed on practice-oriented learning.

The programme includes a Moot Court component, in which students simulate court proceedings involving civil, criminal, administrative, and international cases, developing skills in legal argumentation, public speaking, and the preparation of procedural documents. Students study digital law, work with AI tools, gain practical experience with LegalTech solutions, and learn to use modern legal databases.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed promising areas of cooperation. Beijing Language and Culture University is the world’s leading institution for teaching the Chinese language and China’s premier university for training specialists in linguistics. Over more than 60 years of its history, BLCU has educated nearly 200,000 professionals from around the world who are proficient in Chinese and well acquainted with Chinese culture. Notably, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev completed an internship at the university in 1983–1984.

The agreement between the two universities was reached during the International Conference on Mutual Learning Among Civilizations and the Rule of Law, held in Beijing, China. This innovative postgraduate program is designed to prepare professionals capable of working at the intersection of law, artificial intelligence, data governance, and digital transformation.

The new academic program integrates the educational experience and institutional expertise of one of China’s leading law schools. It combines a strong legal foundation with studies in artificial intelligence technologies, data analytics, algorithmic regulation, digital compliance, and AI governance. The agreement also provides for the participation of CUPL faculty members and experts in the educational process, as well as internships and short-term academic visits to leading Chinese information technology companies, enabling students to gain practical insight into advanced AI applications.

The International Conference on Mutual Learning Among Civilizations and the Rule of Law brought together legal scholars from more than 20 countries. The event also featured the Academic Forum of the China–Central Asia Legal Education Alliance, where members discussed the characteristics of the autonomy of Chinese law and the diversity of global legal civilizations.

“In digital systems, responsibility is distributed among developers, operators, infrastructure providers, and the state. The law must develop new models in which responsibility follows actual control and actual benefit. This leads to a simple principle that I propose for our Alliance: the degree of automation should depend on what is at stake. A system that forwards a document and a system that restricts a person’s liberty require different levels of oversight,” Talgat Narikbayev emphasized during his speech.

The Chairman of the Board also highlighted Kazakhstan’s successful experience in building a digital state, with particular attention to such initiatives as the Digital Family Map and the Digital Bailiff system. The forum was also attended by Christopher Campbell-Holt, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of MNU, as well as Galymzhan Kudaibergenov and Sergey Pen, Deputy Chairmen of the Board of MNU. Established last year, the China–Central Asia Legal Education Alliance aims to promote joint research on legal foundations, foster mutual understanding of legal cultures, and strengthen academic and cultural cooperation among the countries of the region.

The conference concluded with the adoption of a joint initiative calling for the use of international law as a guiding framework for global governance, the expansion of practice-oriented cooperation in international legal education, and the establishment of mechanisms for regular dialogue on issues related to the international rule of law.

The decision was recently approved by the FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation) Accreditation and Certification Committee. Following the committee’s review, five programs offered by the School of Liberal Arts were awarded the FIBAA Quality Seal, confirming their high academic quality, compliance with international standards, and alignment with global best practices.

The Bachelor’s program in Psychology and the Master’s program in Applied Linguistics received initial accreditation for a period of five years. In addition, three programs were granted reaccreditation for seven years: the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Translation Studies, as well as the Bachelor’s program in Applied Linguistics.

FIBAA is one of Europe’s leading accreditation agencies, specializing in the evaluation and accreditation of higher and continuing education programs in business, law, and the social sciences and humanities.
