Academic and Research Council Meeting Held at MNU

Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU) held a meeting of its Academic and Research Council (ARC). The participants discussed ways to improve the training of students enrolled in the Journalism and Reporting educational programme.

As part of the programme review, the ARC supported strengthening its content related to national information policy and information security. For example, the OSINT course was renamed “Information Security and OSINT Analysis Methods”, with its content expanded to cover national information policy, countering disinformation, information security, and communication between the state and society. Starting from the 2027–2028 academic year, the curriculum is also expected to include a new five-ECTS course, “National Interests and Information Security.”

Particular attention was paid to the practical training of future journalists. The Council approved initiatives to expand the range of internship providers to include government agencies, public organizations, and national television channels, as well as to strengthen students’ skills in working with official documents. Work is also planned to enhance the competencies of faculty members by involving industry practitioners and experts and developing relevant methodological guidelines.

In addition, the ARC considered matters related to international cooperation, including the conclusion of a memorandum with the Alexander Institute at the University of Helsinki (Finland), as well as amendments to MNU’s Academic Mobility Regulations.

The decisions adopted at the meeting are aimed at updating educational programmes, expanding international cooperation, and improving the quality of professional training.
