Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU) will cooperate with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The two parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Talgat Narikbayev, Chairman of the MNU Board, and Mahir Safarli, UNHCR Representative for Central Asia. The discussions focused on potential areas of cooperation, academic engagement, and joint research initiatives. Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting the principles of international protection and raising legal awareness.
The Memorandum also provides for joint training sessions, seminars, and research on refugee rights; the organization of events to raise awareness of international protection and human rights; and the further development of university-based legal clinics.
UNHCR coordinates international efforts to protect refugees, asylum-seekers, and stateless persons.
It is worth noting that Kazakhstan currently chairs the Almaty Process, a regional consultative platform in Central Asia addressing refugee protection and international migration.
