The International School of Journalism MNU hosted the opening ceremony of “Al Jazeera Week” – “Week with Al Jazeera”. The event was organized by the TV and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Al Jazeera Media Network and Maqsut Narikbayev University.

Talgat Narikbayev, Chairman of the MNU Board, and Eman Al-Amri, Director of Al Jazeera Media Institute, spoke at the ceremony and signed a memorandum of cooperation.

Al Jazeera is one of the biggest news media outlets in the world. Indeed, this is a fantastic opportunity for our university and students who are currently studying here. Al Jazeera is known for its journalistic integrity and offers a broad perspective on regional and international events. The partnership between our university and Al Jazeera Media Institute has great potential for the development of journalism in Kazakhstan,” said Talgat Narikbayev.

According to Eman Al-Amri, director of Al Jazeera Media Institute, the memorandum of cooperation will provide an opportunity to acquire all the necessary skills and competencies in the media field.

I believe we have shared values and are moving in the right direction. It is great that the university has such a creative environment that encourages change and creativity. We are now working to keep up with all the demands of the media market,” Emen Al-Amri added.

Within the framework of the Week with Al Jazeera, specialists of the Qatari TV channel will hold a week-long training for students of the MNU International School of Journalism and give a series of open lectures on topical issues of modern media.

The students will be taught more than 100 hours of theory and practical training in topics such as News Reporting, Data Journalism, Mobile Journalism, Digital Storytelling and News Presenter Courses.

At the end of the program, students will prepare and defend term projects in each of the areas of study and receive certificates from Al Jazeera Media Institute.

MNU Provost Sergeу Pen noted the uniqueness of the training, saying that students will complete assignments on real cases.

The students’ task is to master all the standards accepted at the world legal news level. Such training at the international level is being conducted for the first time not only in Kazakhstan, but also in the region of Central Asia. Experienced Al Jazeera journalists will successfully convey their professionalism and experience to our students. Internships are also provided. Al Jazeera Media Institute has expressed its readiness to invite to work the participants of the training who will show their potential,” said Mr. Pen.
