Maqsut Narikbayev University hosted a presentation on the Austrian Republic’s achievements in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the fields of art and culture. The event featured an exhibition and an expert lecture.
The event was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Austria in Kazakhstan. The central theme focused on the intersection of creative industries and contemporary global challenges. As part of the program, art management expert Doris Rothauer delivered a lecture on how cultural institutions can contribute to socially sustainable development.
The exhibition was presented in the format of informational stands dedicated to the implementation of each of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals within the cultural sphere. Against this backdrop, key themes and pressing global challenges were explored in detail, including issues of inclusion, cultural diversity, and climate protection worldwide.
“At first glance, art and climate change may seem like two separate topics. In reality, however, they are closely interconnected. To address global challenges, we need creativity, innovation, and imagination to envision a more sustainable and inclusive world. This is where art and culture play a vital role,” emphasized Andrea Bacher, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
It is worth noting that Austria is among the global leaders in advancing the SDGs, ranking in the top five countries for integrating these principles into public policy. The country’s national strategy places a strong emphasis on social cohesion, climate neutrality, and environmental sustainability.
