Visually-Impaired Version 
The second season of Al Jazeera Week, an educational project, is underway at Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU). Seven specialists from the leading international media network are conducting training sessions for aspiring journalists.
Over the course of a week, students of the International School of Journalism will take part in more than 100 hours of theoretical and practical sessions. The training covers such relevant areas as data journalism, digital storytelling, investigative and mobile journalism, fact-checking and verification, modern documentary filmmaking, and interviewing techniques. Upon completion of the programme, students will present their media projects and receive certificates from Al Jazeera.
“Journalism is changing under the influence of technology, artificial intelligence and new forms of communication. However, its role remains the same: to uncover facts, ask questions, explain complex phenomena and earn the public’s trust. I am confident that this project will become an important part of preparing the next generation of journalists,” said Talgat Narikbayev, Chair of the MNU Board.
The University Chair also expressed his gratitude to the Presidential Television and Radio Complex of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Al Jazeera Media Institute for providing students with the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals working at the international level. The experts include television presenters who have interviewed world leaders, recipients of prestigious journalism awards, and reporters with experience working in some of the world’s most dangerous conflict zones. Al Jazeera broadcasts in Arabic and English across most countries worldwide and operates more than 50 international bureaus.
“We have returned to Kazakhstan to strengthen our partnership and take it further. Our goal goes beyond training. We are here to share our experience, nurture talent, exchange knowledge and invest in the next generation of journalists. I would like to thank MNU and the Presidential Television and Radio Complex for their trust and partnership,” said Iman Al Amri, Director of the Al Jazeera Media Institute.
The partnership was launched in 2024 during the state visit of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Qatar. At that time, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between Al Jazeera and the Presidential Television and Radio Complex. Later, MNU and the Al Jazeera Media Institute also signed a memorandum of cooperation.
“This project is of great value. For students, it is an opportunity to gain first-hand experience of global media from professionals and see how international journalism works. For the Presidential Television and Radio Complex, it is an opportunity to work with a new generation of journalists, enhance the professional skills of our specialists and incorporate international experience into our daily work,” said Yerkezhan Kuntugan, Deputy Director of the Presidential Television and Radio Complex of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
It should be recalled that the first season of Al Jazeera Week was held at MNU two years ago.
