Maqsut Narikbayev University hosted a lecture by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Kazakhstan, Petros Nakuzis. The diplomat delivered the lecture for students of the International Relations educational programme.
Petros Nakuzis spoke about the history and foreign policy of Cyprus since gaining independence, the country’s strategic significance, and its role in the region. The discussion covered the specifics of diplomacy of the island state and its interaction with other countries. The Ambassador also answered questions from the students.
“The participants of the lecture demonstrated a high level of preparation, a deep understanding of the topic, and a balanced approach to the discussion. I was particularly impressed by their questions. I hope that in the future we will be able to further develop cooperation between your university and Cypriot universities,” said Petros Nakuzis.
The diplomat also highly praised the responsible approach of MNU students to their work. More than ten students completed internships at the Embassy of Cyprus in Kazakhstan, which opened this year. They contributed to the work of the Consular Section amid high demand from visitors following the launch of direct flights between Astana and Larnaca.
It should be noted that Cyprus is one of Kazakhstan’s important partners in Europe. At the beginning of June this year, President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides visited Astana on the first official visit by a Cypriot head of state in history.
