First Kazakhstan–Malaysia University Forum Held at MNU

The first Kazakhstan–Malaysia University Forum was held at Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU). Participants discussed ways to expand academic and research cooperation between the two countries.

The event was organized jointly with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The forum brought together university leaders and representatives of higher education institutions and organizations from both countries. The event also featured the signing of a number of documents aimed at expanding cooperation between higher education institutions in Kazakhstan and Malaysia.

“Our countries are strengthening cooperation across various areas, and universities play an important role in developing these ties. That is why this forum is particularly important, as it brings together university leaders from Kazakhstan and Malaysia who can open up new areas of cooperation and lay the foundation for long-term institutional partnerships. We are developing cooperation with Malaysian universities and are also exploring new opportunities for engagement with other educational institutions,” said Talgat Narikbayev, Chairman of the Management Board of MNU.

Key areas of partnership between the two countries include joint research projects, the development of educational programmes and academic mobility, as well as cooperation in artificial intelligence, engineering, innovation and the development of highly qualified human capital. According to Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, more than 80 agreements have been concluded between over 40 Kazakhstani and more than 30 Malaysian universities. The parties agreed to elevate cooperation in higher education to a new level and to hold such meetings on a regular basis.

“We will develop cooperation between universities, including academic mobility and research projects. We have also identified promising areas for joint research, including AI, critical and mineral resources, renewable and nuclear energy, as well as agriculture,” said Zambry Abdul Kadir, Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia.

At the conclusion of the forum, the Malaysian delegation also toured MNU’s facilities and learned about its innovative projects.
