Bachelor of Arts in the educational programme 6B02302 – Applied Linguistics.

The aim of the Applied Linguistics programme is to train a diversely developed specialist-linguist of a wide profile, who has a profound knowledge of two foreign languages, possesses the methodology of sociological research, is able to apply modern approaches in teaching foreign languages, translate and interpret, and has skills of editing and media writing.
The educational programme is formed on the basis of the requirements of the State Educational Standards of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the requirements of the modern market and employers.

Programme structure

The programme Applied Linguistics is developed taking into account the best world practices and takes into account the requirements of the modern labour market for specialists in the field of applied linguistics.

The programme was presented at the Consultative Council of the SLA, which includes foreign and Kazakhstani employers and specialists in the field of linguistics and foreign language teaching methods.

The programme is presented in two forms of study, full-time (4 years) and shortened (3 years).

To complete the degree in 4 years, a student must complete 248 academic credits. This form of education is provided for those entering on the basis of secondary education. Those entering after college (on the basis of secondary vocational education) have the opportunity to complete their studies in 3 years, having mastered 192 academic credits.

All students on the programme have the opportunity to create their own individual study plan. A detailed course programme is available for consultation in the catalogue of the SLA.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this programme graduates will be able to:

  • apply knowledge of the lexical, grammatical and phonetic systems of the English language when carrying out linguistic analyses;
  • conduct research and project activities in linguistics and other fields;
  • apply modern teaching and assessment methods;
  • communicate effectively in multicultural and multilingual environments in both English and a second foreign language;
  • possess analytical, decision-making and integrated problem-solving skills;
  • express their thoughts, ideas and beliefs in an audience-, context-, purpose- and style-specific manner;
  • work with various databases to search, identify and evaluate reliable sources of information;
  • to follow professional ethics;
  • manage emotional intelligence in personal and professional relationships
