Maqsut Narikbayev University once again became a platform for a major international event. The university hosted the conference International Year of Peace and Trust: Celebrating Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality.
The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the Mazhilis of the Parliament, heads of diplomatic missions, and international experts. Participants discussed the role and importance of Turkmenistan’s neutrality as a factor in regional security, a tool for international dialogue, and a model of peaceful coexistence amid global challenges. An accompanying exhibition showcased Turkmen traditional attire, carpets, and literature.
“As our esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has stated, Turkmenistan’s neutrality is a doctrine of peace and fraternal respect that unites nations for the sake of noble goals. This year has been declared the International Year of Peace and Trust in Turkmenistan. This initiative reflects the country’s commitment to strengthening stability and mutual respect,” emphasised Batyr Rejepov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Kazakhstan.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, officially recognised by the United Nations General Assembly on 12 December 1995. The nation’s choice received broad international support, and Neutrality Day remains the second most significant national holiday in Turkmenistan.
“This date is not only a historical milestone but also a reminder of Turkmenistan’s strategic choice in favour of peace, dialogue, and respect for sovereignty. Our university is honoured to serve as a platform for such discussions, where diverse perspectives converge, ideas receive expert assessment, and students learn to translate knowledge into social good. It is here that initiatives fostering mutual understanding between nations are born,” noted Anar Ibrayeva, Provost of MNU.
The conference concluded by highlighting the importance of continued collaboration in education and research, as well as the development of joint projects aimed at strengthening cooperation among the countries of the region.
