Maqsut Narikbayev University has opened applications for the II International Legathon MaxUP. The major student competition will take place on 3–4 April 2026.
International Legathon MaxUP is a global platform where young innovators work on solutions to key challenges of the digital age. The competition brings together students from different countries to explore the evolution of law in a rapidly changing technological landscape. The theme for 2026 is Law of the Future.
The competition will be held in two language leagues (Russian and English). Each university may form one team of five participants (four law students and one accompanying supervisor) to compete for valuable prizes. Applicants must submit their application via the link providedby 1 January 2026 and attach a motivation essay of up to 2,000 words on the topic: Which fundamental legal principle or doctrine will undergo the most significant transformation in the digital future?
The top 12 selected teams (seven teams from the Russian-language league and five from the English-language league) will receive full funding, including travel, accommodation and meals. Participants will also gain hands-on experience, mentorship from industry experts and the opportunity to showcase their potential on the international stage. The detailed programme and case topics will be published later.
The first International Legathon MaxUP took place on 18–19 April this year and was dedicated to the 85th anniversary of MNU’s Honorary Rector, statesman and public figure Maqsut Narikbayev. The competition brought together nine student teams from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Uzbekistan. The winning team represented the National Research University Higher School of Economics (Russia).
