Maqsut Narikbayev University will play a key role in developing an artificial intelligence model designed to support the preparation of legal documents. The initiative was announced in Astana during the International Forum on the Use of AI in Law and Dispute Resolution.
The legal forum Joint Approach to LegalTech Foresight and Law took place today at the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC). The event brought together experts from Kazakhstan and China to discuss the role of artificial intelligence in advancing legislation and modern dispute-resolution systems. The forum was organised by the AIFC Court and the International Arbitration Centre (IAC) in cooperation with MNU, Astana IT University (AITU) and the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL).
Participants examined the role of AI in transforming legal practice, shaping regulatory frameworks, and supporting the technological foundations of contemporary justice systems. They also discussed global trends, opportunities and challenges related to the integration of AI into legal research, lawmaking and dispute resolution. In addition, the AIFC Court, the IAC, MNU, AITU and CUPL signed a declaration launching the LegalTech Lab, a joint project aimed at creating an AI model that will assist in drafting legal documents and enhance the efficiency of legal processes across the region.
“We will focus on developing proactive AI solutions and scalable products in the areas of LegalTech and GovTech. These initiatives will strengthen regulatory foresight mechanisms and deliver tangible benefits to the state, business and society,” said Sergey Pen, MNU’s Deputy Chair of the Management Board for Science, Innovation and Artificial Intelligence.
This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening inter-university and international cooperation in legal technologies. Forum participants also emphasised the importance of ethical standards and professional responsibility in creating reliable and effective AI-based solutions for the legal sector. Linhan Zhang, Dean of the Institute of Law and AI Technologies at CUPL, highlighted the global importance of ethical approaches to AI.
“Robust artificial intelligence systems must be built through international cooperation. New technologies should serve the interests of justice, sustainable development and global stability,” she noted.
Representatives of the China University of Political Science and Law will also deliver a guest lecture at MNU on the development and regulation of AI in China.
