Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU) is planning to launch a new academic program in artificial intelligence. This was announced on the Modern Nomads program of the international news channel Euronews.
It is worth noting that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has declared 2026 the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence. The new episode of the program highlighted the work of the International Artificial Intelligence Center Alem.ai, the expansion of online public services in the country, and AI-related projects at MNU. Previously, the university introduced a mandatory artificial intelligence course for students and launched two AI laboratories.
“We have developed a hybrid AI+X program, in which students spend the first two years studying IT disciplines in depth. After that, they can choose any academic field offered by the university, making the program more than just a technical one. As a result, graduates will possess the skills to apply AI across various disciplines,” said Sergey Pen, Vice Chairman of the Management Board of MNU for Science, Innovation, and Artificial Intelligence.
Sergey Pen also emphasized that AI is not intended to replace universities, but rather to transform them. Earlier, MNU presented a comprehensive model for integrating AI technologies into the educational process and, together with its partners, announced the launch of the joint LegalTech Lab project, which aims to develop an AI model to assist in the preparation of legal documents. In addition, this year the university will gain access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu educational platform.
