MNU Recognised as a Leading University in Kazakhstan – Chinese Ambassador

Maqsut Narikbayev University was visited by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Kazakhstan, Han Chunlin. During the visit, the diplomat met with the University’s senior management to discuss prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Han Chunlin toured the University’s infrastructure and noted the favourable conditions created for education and research. In his meeting with the leadership of MNU, he focused in detail on the development of Chinese–Kazakh cooperation, highlighting the pivotal role of higher education institutions in strengthening relations between the two countries.

“Maqsut Narikbayev University is a leading university in Kazakhstan. The University also hosts a think tank in the form of the MIND Research and Analytical Centre. Through cooperation between the Embassy and the University, we can make a significant contribution to mutual understanding between our peoples. We are ready to provide comprehensive support and intend to recommend MNU to Chinese universities in order to expand partnerships and promote academic mobility programmes,” Ambassador Han Chunlin stated.

During the meeting, the Chinese Ambassador proposed holding an International Seminar on the Chinese legal system at the University, as well as a gala concert dedicated to the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year). The Chair of the Management Board of MNU, Talgat Narikbayev, welcomed the initiatives and expressed the University’s readiness to support them. He also proposed launching joint research projects with Chinese partners and invited universities from China to take an active part in the large-scale competition International Legathon MaxUP 2026.

“The Head of State has declared this year the Year of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence. In this regard, the theme of the competition is Digital Law, within which student teams will present cases in the fields of artificial intelligence and digital law. Last year, the first International Legathon MaxUP brought together students from four countries. This year, the geography of the competition is expanding significantly. Universities from China, India, Germany, and Romania have already confirmed their participation,” Talgat Narikbayev emphasised.

It was also announced that Ambassador Han Chunlin will deliver a guest lecture at MNU later this year. He invited students to actively participate in events organised by the Embassy aimed at studying the Chinese language.

At present, approximately 300 students at the University are studying Chinese. Previously, MNU joined the China–Central Asia Legal Education Alliance and signed a memorandum of cooperation with China University of Political Science and Law.
