Maqsut Narikbayev University hosted the Datathon, a data analysis competition that brought together students from Grade 9 to 12 across Astana.
Participants focused on identifying the factors that shape life satisfaction. Their English-language projects included literature reviews, data analysis, and the use of econometric methods and machine learning models to determine key drivers and assess their impact. Within a short period, school students mastered the basics of programming, statistics, and research methodology.
A total of 48 applications were submitted, with 8 teams advancing to the finals. The projects were evaluated by representatives of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan and professors of the International School of Economics at MNU. The competition aimed to enhance data-driven research skills among school students and to promote analytical approaches to studying social and economic phenomena.
The winning team, Banger, represented by Gleb Vtorushin, Begim Zhangir, and Tarlan Aizharikov, was awarded the Maqsut Narikbayev University Scholarship. Additionally, the team Se7en Media received a special jury prize.
Notably, the MNU Datathon has become one of the first events in Kazakhstan designed specifically for a school-age audience.
