A long-awaited movie screening was held at the Public Library MNU in Astana. The audience had a unique opportunity to immerse in the documentary film atmosphere, thanks to the works of talented Kazakhstani directors Meruert Zhakiyanova (Shalbaeva) and Ilyas Otan.
The evening’s program included three films:
- Dears: the story of Dimash’s super-fans from California who traveled thousands of kilometers to get to Kazakhstan. The movie, previously presented at the Qara Film Festival, elicited a lively response from the Almaty audience.
- Segiz: an exciting journey to a mysterious lake in Southern Kazakhstan, which did impress any viewer. We would like to remind you that earlier the picture won the audience vote at the International Road Movie Festival.
- Surfactant: the touching story of a re-locant who found a new life in Kazakhstan. The film, nominated for The Student Academy Awards (Oscar), made a deep impression on the audience.
Every movie was followed by a lively discussion between the audience and the filmmakers. The guests of the event shared their impressions and asked many interesting questions.
The film screening at MNU was a real event for all documentary film lovers. Coordinators, including Meruert Zhakiyanova (Shalbaeva), head of educational programs at MNU, thank all those who attended the event and hope for new meetings.
