Students of the International School of Journalism at Maqsut Narikbayev University met with Emmy Award winner Charles McLean. The world-renowned expert in public administration and communications delivered a guest lecture on the fragmented media landscape in the United States.
Charles McLean shared his insights on how the profession of journalism is transforming in the modern era. He emphasised that the global order and media environment are undergoing profound changes, while the free American press faces unprecedented challenges. The expert also highlighted emerging dangerous trends and offered practical advice to future journalists.
A separate part of the discussion focused on the second presidential term of Donald Trump. According to McLean, this event created an unprecedented confrontation for the American media. At the same time, the traditional model of opposition between representatives of the Republican Party and Democratic journalists is rapidly eroding.
For more than five years, Charles McLean headed the Africa Bureau of NBC News. He is also a member of the MNU Board of Trustees, the founder and Managing Director of Borderless Consulting Group, a partner at Portland Communications, and a former correspondent and Director of Communications at the World Economic Forum.
