Maqsut Narikbayev University hosted a guest lecture by Michał Łabenda, Chargé d’Affaires of Poland in Kazakhstan. The diplomat addressed students in the Kazakh language.
The lecture, entitled Being a Diplomat in a Multicultural World: Experience, Sensitivity, and Trust, attracted strong interest from students of Hospitality and Tourism programmes. Michał Łabenda shared insights from his professional career and highlighted key elements of effective diplomacy. He emphasised that genuine understanding of another culture begins with exploring its unique linguistic features — idioms, proverbs, and well-known references from literature and cinema.
“I am truly delighted to collaborate with MNU. I was very impressed by the students, they are exceptionally intelligent, well-educated, and fluent in three languages, which commands great respect. But what impressed me most was their engagement and enthusiasm during the lecture. Their questions were thoughtful and precise,” said Michał Łabenda.
Notably, the Polish diplomat completed his higher education in Kazakhstan and is fluent in nine languages. The guest lecture was held as part of the special course Intercultural Communication.
