As part of the Law and Order narrative, Maqsut Narikbayev University hosted a training session led by Aizhan Aimaganova, Head of the Department for Public Prosecution and Participation in the Appellate Court of the Astana Prosecutor’s Office. The renowned prosecutor spoke about the rights, obligations, and responsibilities of journalists when covering court proceedings.
During the session, participants received clarifications on the regulatory framework governing media activities, types of liability, and cases where exemption from liability applies. Several cases involving journalists and bloggers engaged in extortion or the dissemination of knowingly false information were also examined. In addition, Aizhan Aimaganova shared recommendations on effective cooperation between journalists and law enforcement agencies.
“Legal literacy is not an additional skill for a journalist, but the foundation of safe and professional work. When you are equipped with knowledge, you are always stronger, calmer, and more confident in your work. Training sessions like this help prepare for challenging or provocative questions, maintain composure, and convey the right message — to speak in a way that is precise, legally sound, and clear to the public,” emphasised Aizhan Aimaganova.
More than fifty students and journalists took part in the training.
