Maqsut Narikbayev University hosted a meeting of the Discussion Club on Administrative Justice of the Astana City Court. Experts examined key issues related to the registration, protection, and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
The discussion brought together judges, university representatives, officials from public authorities, lawyers, advocates, and subject-matter experts. The event aimed to develop more effective mechanisms for safeguarding intellectual property rights and to improve law enforcement practice in Kazakhstan. Participants highlighted frequent violations of intellectual property rights, insufficient substantiation of certain decisions by public bodies, and the pressing need for a uniform approach to the adjudication of disputes in this field.
Chair of the Committee on Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sholpan Abdreyeva, noted a growing number of applications seeking protection of intellectual property rights. She emphasised the importance of such events in enhancing legal awareness and ensuring the active involvement of the judiciary in shaping effective practices for the protection of intellectual property. Participants also stressed the need to develop a unified template for resolving disputes in this area.
The meeting also featured remarks by Sergey Pen, Deputy Chair of the MNU Board for Science, Innovation and Artificial Intelligence, who underscored the importance of adhering to intellectual property principles when using artificial intelligence in the legal domain. Meanwhile, Roman Melnyk, Director of the University’s Scientific School of German and Administrative Law, highlighted the necessity of closer interaction between academic research and judicial practice. According to him, systematic mechanisms are required to integrate research outcomes into the administration of justice.
It should be noted that the Discussion Club has been operating since 1 July 2022.
