Students of Maqsut Narikbayev University have achieved victory in a prestigious student competition, taking first place at the annual international arbitration moot IAC Central Asia Vis Pre-Moot 2026.
The competition was held at the AIFC International Arbitration Centre as part of the Eurasian Arbitration Week Youth Programme. The Vis Moot is the largest competition in the world for law students, aimed at studying international commercial law and arbitration for the resolution of international business disputes through a real practical legal problem. The contest brought together student teams from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, the United States, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and France.
The winning team from the MNU School of Law included Aisha Kurleutova, Aknur Abdimanova, Shirin Makhmutaliyeva, and Ayana Minbayeva. The team was coached by Ansar Ismagulov, Marie S. Bergner, and Usen Tastanbekov. In addition, Ayana Minbayeva was recognized as the Best Performer in the General Rounds, while Shirin Makhmutaliyeva was named Best Performer in the Final Round.
Notably, this victory allows MNU to represent Kazakhstan at the 23rd Vis East Moot, which will take place in Hong Kong later this month. It should also be noted that last week the university won the Kazakhstan round of the global CFA Institute Research Challenge.
