Tomiris Kaniyeva, a student of the International School of Economics at Maqsut Narikbayev University, has been named one of the five winners of the 5th Annual Regional Investment Portfolio Competition organised by the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG). She achieved the highest result among all participants from Kazakhstan.
The competition was held online over the course of five weeks and brought together around 300 undergraduate and postgraduate students from 16 countries. Tomiris Kaniyeva was the only finalist from Kazakhstan and earned the opportunity to complete an internship at one of LSEG’s offices.
Throughout the competition, participants were required to build an investment portfolio delivering the highest possible return on investment and present it to professional investors and independent experts from the London Stock Exchange. Finalists also had to answer a series of questions related to strategy, performance metrics, and risk management. In developing her portfolio, Tomiris Kaniyeva applied a combination of three strategies: growth investing, fundamental analysis, and momentum analysis.
LSEG is a British global financial company that owns the London Stock Exchange and provides a wide range of financial and trading services. It is worth noting that MNU students previously won the Spectrum Case Championship.
