BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN SERVICES IN THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME “6B11102 TOURISM”

Aim of the programme: The programme is focused on providing essential skills and knowledge in management and business processes in the tourism industry, both nationally and globally. Students will gain practical experience in evaluating tourism projects, organising and managing cultural and business events, and developing operational and strategic plans in tourism-related projects.

The educational programme is formed on the basis of the requirements of the State Educational Standard of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the requirements of the modern market and employers

Programme structure

The programme “Tourism” is developed taking into account the best world practices and takes into account the requirements of the modern labour market to specialists in the tourism industry.
The programme was presented at the SLA Business Council, which includes foreign and Kazakhstani employers and tourism and hospitality professionals.
The programme is presented in two forms of study, full-time (4 years) and shortened (3 years).
To complete the degree in 4 years a student must complete 248 academic credits. This form of education is provided for those entering on the basis of secondary education. Those entering after college (on the basis of secondary vocational education) have the opportunity to complete their studies in 3 years, having fulfilled 192 academic credits.

All students on the programme have the opportunity to create their own individual study plan. A detailed course programme is available for consultation in the catalogue of the Graduate School of Liberal Arts.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this programme graduates will be able to:

— Identify the main strengths and weaknesses of local and regional tourism management organisations;
— Analyse cases to solve managerial and marketing problems in the tourism industry;
— Evaluate cases in the field of tourism;
— Address tourism issues in a sustainable manner;
— Effective communication in at least two or more foreign languages;
— Organise and run events of all sizes and themes, including cultural, business and mega events;
— Use best marketing practices to develop business, operational and strategic plans for the tourism and travel industry;
— conduct empirical research;
— apply knowledge of legislation and regulations in the field of tourism and services;
— develop strategies for planning and development of tourist destinations and tourist zones;
— possess teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.
