Lecturer in Cinematography and Editing

International School of Journalism at MNU invites applications for the position of Lecturer-Practitioner in Cinematography and Editing to teach courses related to cinematography, video production, and editing.

The candidate must have practical experience in the media industry and be ready to combine teaching activities with practice-oriented student training.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching courses in cinematography, editing, shot composition, animation, and video production;
  • Organising and supervising the filming process;
  • Conducting practical classes in computer labs and studios;
  • Working with cameras, lighting equipment, stabilisers, and other technical resources;
  • Developing teaching materials, assignments, and assessment criteria;
  • Managing courses in the Canvas system (uploading materials, grading assignments, and providing feedback to students);
  • Preparing practical content (podcasts, video reports, etc.);
  • Participating in school events and projects;
  • Participating in scientific and practical conferences and seminars.

Candidate Requirements:

1. Education

  • Higher education in journalism, media, film, television, or video production;
  • A Master’s degree or PhD will be considered an advantage.

2. Work Experience

  • Practical experience in the media industry, television, digital media, or film production;
  • Experience in news studios, production companies, or directing;
  • Teaching experience is desirable.

3. Professional Skills

  • Knowledge of composition principles, filming techniques, and editing methods;
  • Ability to organise and manage the filming process;
  • Proficiency in professional equipment and technical resources;
  • Confident command of the following software:
    • Adobe Premiere Pro;
    • DaVinci Resolve;
    • Adobe After Effects;
    • Other video editing and colour grading software.

4. Language Requirements

  • Proficiency in Russian and/or Kazakh;
  • Knowledge of English will be considered an advantage.

5. Personal Competencies
