On the eve of Republic Day, Maqsut Narikbayev University hosted the national intellectual competition Zangar Zanger. The event aimed to promote the use of the Kazakh language in the legal sphere and enhance students’ linguistic competence, bringing together participants from nine universities across Kazakhstan.
During the competition, students worked on practical legal cases, demonstrated analytical and argumentative skills, and competed in debates conducted in the state language. A highlight of the event was the creative stage, where participants showcased their ingenuity by linking legal themes with contemporary social and cultural contexts. The top three teams represented Maqsut Narikbayev University, Karaganda Buketov University, and L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, with MNU taking first place.
“We wanted to show not only our knowledge but also our passion for the profession. At every stage, we tried to think creatively, approach cases in unconventional ways, and challenge the stereotype that a lawyer must always be formal and reserved. This victory is the result of our dedication and our desire to advance the Kazakh language in the legal field,” said Maqsut Narikbayev University student Yerkanat Aidarbek.
It is worth noting that MNU actively implements initiatives to promote the state language in the legal domain. Earlier, the university’s professors presented the Kazakh translation of Dmitriy Dozhdev’s renowned textbook Roman Private Law and the book Kazakh-Russian Legal Dictionary: Errors and Interpretations.
