BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN THE FIELD OF SERVICES IN THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME 6B11101 – HOSPITALITY

Aim of the programme: The Bachelor programme in Hospitality with a focus on hotel management and operations aims to develop a new generation of multilingual hospitality professionals who are aware of all aspects of hospitality standards. In addition, the programme aims to train hospitality industry leaders who are ready to work in the multicultural environment of the hospitality industry.

— Given the available range of courses offered during the programme, a student can take up to 2 majors throughout the programme and receive a Hilton-Astana Programme Certificate. In addition, graduates will be able to study one additional foreign language (Chinese / Spanish / Italian / German / French) as part of the programme, making future professionals in this field quite competitive candidates.

The educational programme is formed on the basis of the requirements of the State Educational Standards of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the requirements of the modern market and employers.

Programme structure

The programme “Hospitality” is developed taking into account the best world practices and takes into account the requirements of the modern labour market to specialists in the field of industry and hospitality and tourism. World best practices have been taken into account in the design of the programme.

The programme was presented at the SLA Business Council, which includes foreign and Kazakhstani employers and tourism and hospitality professionals.

The programme is presented in two forms of study, full-time (4 years) and shortened (3 years).

To complete the degree in 4 years, a student must complete 248 academic credits. This form of education is provided for those entering on the basis of secondary education. Those entering after college (on the basis of secondary vocational education) have the opportunity to complete their studies in 3 years, having mastered 192 academic credits.

All students on the programme have the opportunity to create their own individual study plan. A detailed course programme is available for consultation in the  SLA catalogue.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this programme, graduates will learn how to:

— analyse case studies containing problematic issues in the hospitality and services sector;
— demonstrate skills to communicate effectively with guests in a multicultural environment;
— to be creative and flexible in making decisions on work-related issues;
— identify and evaluate service quality issues in hotel and restaurant management processes in hospitality industry establishments;
— apply standard safety procedures and management skills to the operational activities of the food and beverage service and other hotel departments;
— organise a real-world event using management, marketing and financial principles and theories;
— perform a variety of housekeeping services for guests and operate equipment;
— build professional relationships, work productively in teams and acquire leadership skills;
— apply qualitative and quantitative research methods in the hospitality industry;
— work with different types of operating systems used in large hotel chains and restaurants;
— utilise hospitality industry best practices in developing operational and strategic plans;
— organise hospitality projects (hotel and restaurant management).
