Maqsut Narikbayev University hosted a presentation highlighting Austria’s progress in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through art and culture. The event featured an exhibition alongside a public lecture by an international expert.
Organized in partnership with the Embassy of Austria in Kazakhstan, the event explored how creative industries intersect with today’s global challenges. Art management expert Doris Rothauer delivered a lecture focusing on the role of cultural institutions in fostering socially sustainable development.
The exhibition was designed as a series of informational displays, each dedicated to one of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and their implementation within the cultural sphere. The displays addressed pressing global issues, including inclusion, cultural diversity, and climate action, demonstrating how culture can serve as a platform for dialogue and change.
“At first glance, art and climate change may seem like unrelated topics. In reality, they are deeply interconnected. Addressing global challenges requires creativity, innovation, and imagination to envision a more sustainable and inclusive future. This is precisely where art and culture play a vital role,” said Andrea Bacher, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
Austria ranks among the world’s leading countries in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, consistently placing in the top five for integrating these principles into national policy. Its strategy places particular emphasis on social cohesion, climate neutrality, and environmental sustainability.
